Teezi, Breezi, Breezi Max

The chair that grows with your child, providing support along the way.

Parents love that it fits well at home.

Kids love it because they can sit comfortably.

Therapists love it as they can achieve the right posture.

A growing child needs to be sat on a chair that fits their body size and provides them with postural support. The consequences of seating them incorrectly can affect their posture for life. As children grow quickly, they need a chair that can grow with them.

The Breezi range grows with the child, can be configured to the child's body, and has a large range of support accessories to ensure that good posture is well maintained. As the child grows, the adjustability of the Breezi chair helps ensure that the child is seated at the right height in relation their table or work surface, and that their feet are at the right level in relation to the seat plate. Unlike other high chairs on the market, Breezi chairs have longer feet in order to provide additional stability for the child. This makes the Breezi a great chair for children with specific needs, for example those who rock.

The Breezi high chair range has been designed so it can be integrated easily within a home or school environment.

Configurable Elements

Selecting the chair's leg height

Breezi range of chairs are available in 3 sizes Teezi, Breezi and Max. Teezi has the shortest chair leg, Breezi is medium, and Max has the tallest chair leg.

The legs of Teezi, Breezi, and Max have notches carved down to the same level, so the height of the legs dictates the placement of the backrail, seat plate, and footplate to ensure good posture is maintained.

The height of the chair legs can be determined by taking into consideration two important factors -  the height of the child and the work surface that the child will be seated at.

Examples:

A young/small child might still need to have the tallest chair legs (Max) if they are to be sat at a high dining table or breakfast bar at home to accommodate for the height of the work surface.

A taller child might need the shortest chair legs (Teezi) if their work surface was a low nursery table.

Selecting the right chair width

The Breezi Range enables high level of adjustability which means it is possible to interchange the different chair widths between the different leg heights.

Example:

A young child having to sit up to reach a high working surface will require the Max legs as they are the tallest, but accommodate for the body size of a young child one could use a Breezi (medium) width seat and foot plate.

This type of setup is called the hybrid setup.

The beauty of this system is that the chair can be customised to fit the child's needs, unlike other off-the-shelf chairs.

Selecting seat and footplate depth

The seat and footplate depth is important to allow for growth over time.

We offer a range of seat and foot plate depths in Teezi, Breezi and Max to ensure that the child can be seated properly.

Teezi is available in 9", 11", and 13" inch plate depths

Breezi is available in 10", 12", and 14" inch plate depths

Max is available in 14" and 16" inch plate depths

NOTE: It is not possible to mix depths of plate across widths of chair, for instance it isn’t possible to have an 11inch depth on a Breezi)

Selecting the Back Rail

REEKS XYZ 061

The Breezi Range comes with two standard back rails, which are suitable for children who do not need upper body postural supports.

Back rails are also available in a high back rail option with two different configurations upright and inverted.

The upright position raises the height of the back thereby enabling a more suitable mounting point for shoulder harnesses, and the addition of a high back pad.

The inverted position fills in the gap between back and the seat plate, which can help with both positioning and comfort. As the child grows the back can be moved to the upright position.

Please note: Accessories shown in the image are additional extras

Selecting Upholstery

Breezi upholstery is available in Almond Ultra Faux leather. Other upholstery choices are available at an extra charge.

Please contact BES Rehab on 01179 666 761 if you would like a different colour or material.

Postural Supports

Thigh Pads

REEKS XYZ 059

Thigh pads are used to offer support and to act as a guide for the pelvis. They also act as a prompt to prevent the thights from abducting. Thigh pads can be used on seat plates to enable width adjustment for a smaller child, and then removed as the child grows.

We offer two sizes of thigh pad: short and long. The long is used on the deeper seat plates (as a guide 12”+)

Medial Knee Abductor - Pommel

REEKS XYZ 067

The Medial knee abductor is used as a part of lower body positioning to separate the legs or thigh region (abductors).

It helps improve hip alignment, positioning the pelvis correctly, and promoting better posture.

They are commonly misused as a means to stop the user sliding forward in the their seat. A hip belt should be used to stabalise the pelvis and to prevent slipping.

On the Breezi pommels can either be mounted directly on the seat plate via a drilled hole, or can be mounted on a quick release mount, which attaches to the underside of the seat plate and enables the quick removal especially during transfers.

Bodypoint Hip Belt

20170331 091734 Edit

Stabilising the pelvis is important, allowing it to have a degree of natural movement is equally necessary. It is very important to position and support a child’s pelvic region correctly since, as children grow a badly positioned pelvis can lead to the development of spinal deformities, and vice versa.

Most hip belts are mounted at 45 degree which can reduce read, dig into soft tissues, and act as a retraint.

Seating is a functional activity, hence a belt should act as a support and not a restraint.

BES recommends the correct belt position is at 80°+ which will help extend reach, keep the pelvis in place and discourage posterior pelvic tilt. This position will allow pressure relief off the ITs, and is safe as it will discourage submarining.

The Breezi chairs have been designed to enable positioning belts in the right place.

Bodypoint Harnesses

REEKS XYZ 072

Positioning the head correctly is vital, but weak trunk muscles could mean that an individual trying to reach, for example to fulfil normal daily activities, might not be able to return to a neutral balanced position.

Hence dynamic secondary supports such as harnesses are valuable aids, providing a certain degree of elasticity, thus assisting the torso to return to a neutral position.

BES offers a range of shoulder harnesses that can encourage controlled dynamic movement.

The form-fitting shape of the PivotFit™ Shoulder Harness offers optimal support and a comfortable fit, to suit individual needs.

Curved laminar pads™ follow the contours of the shoulders and rib cage with a lowered sternum adjustment strap to reduce the risk of choking.

A swivel buckle and refined sewing construction for easy care,  presents a sleek, form-fitting look.

Cornerback

Breezi Cornerback

The cornerback is designed to offer lateral support to the trunk, in other words help keep the upper trunk in place if there’s a tendency to lean or drop to one side.

The standard cornerback is suitable for most individuals.

To be able to mount a shoulder harness a taller back support is needed, for which a high corner back is a good option.

The narrow corner back is particularly for younger children.

All the cornerbacks come with padding to match the other upholstered items of the chair.

High Back Pad

REEKS XYZ 052

The high back pad mounts on the high back rail which helps raise the height of the back.

It is used as a head rest or prompt if the child has a tendancy to roll their head backwards.

It has a slightly curved surface and is padded.

Head Rest

REEKS XYZ 053

For children who need the opportunity to rest their head from time to time when seated we offer a head rest. It is important to point out this isn’t intended as a head support i.e. to support the head properly, it really is just a rest.

It is available either with or without “wings”, which are extra pieces of cushioning either side of the central flat piece and act as an effective prompt when the head wanders off to the side.

Pre-ischial Ridge Cushion

Breezi Ischial Ridge

The ischial tuberosities (ITs) are the pointy boney prominences in the buttocks. The ITs are the bones that feel the most amount of pressure on a hard surface.

A pre-ischial ridge when placed in front of the ITs can help to avoid undue pressures to the anterior of the ischials, which in turn stop the pelvis slipping forward as the individual relaxes into a posterior tilt.

Chest Strap

Breezi Chest Strap

As an alternative to the Bodypoint Monoflex we offer a few different Velcro chest straps. These are finished in the same material as the other upholstered items on the chair so are generally more in keeping in comparison to the black of the Monoflex.

The chest strap is designed to accompany the cornerback comes mounted into the back of the cornerback itself.

The free standing chest strap can be mounted directly into either the standard or high back rails of the Breezi via a single hole.

If you’re concerned about the child open the strap themselves, then we offer the option of adding a side release buckle for additional security.

Accessories

Seat Cushion

Breezi Seat Cushion

Often added simply for the additional comfort, a seat cushion can also help with stability as sitting on the bear wood of the seat plate can be a bit slippy depending on the child’s clothing. We offer cushions tailored to the size of the plate in question. We offer a full width cushion and a half width cushion. The half width (as shown above) is used when either a hip belt is used, or a pair of thigh pads, as both of these are mounted through the seat plate. The full width cushion is only used when nothing else is to be mounted into the plate.

Back Rail Cushions

Breezi High Back Pad

For both high back rails and standard back rails we offer cushions. For the standard back rails they attach using Velcro and for the high back rail there is a flap and Velcro. If you are ordering a cushion for a high back rail that is mounted in the inverted position please indicate this on your order as we stitch these slightly differently for aesthetic reasons.

Trays

Breezi Tray

Depending on whether you intend on using the Breezi at an existing table or not you might want to consider getting a tray. A tray not only provides a work surface for eating, playing, or doing homework, but it can also be utilised as a postural support in that the user can use it in conjunction with arms to aid upper body positioning and stability.

We offer three trays in line with the three chair widths available. The actual surface area of the trays is exactly the same but the slots for the mounting arms have to be in different positions in line with the chair width meaning that the trays aren’t interchangeable between different chair widths.

There are two lengths of mounting arms: Standard and Long. In normal configuration the long arms are only used on the Max height chairs. However it is possible to use the different length arms across all chair configurations. For instance a child sitting particularly high on a Max chair might require the standard length arms and a child sitting low on a Breezi height chair might find the standard arms make the try too high, so would be better off with the long arms.

The trays have adjustable depth via the underside mounting brackets. On all of the trays we also offer the option of having a deep cut out.

We offer a few accessories to go with trays:

Tray Retaining Straps – If you are concerned that the child might be able to lift the tray off themselves and hurt themselves or those around them then we offer tray securing straps that can only be opened by someone not sitting in the chair.

Tray pads – If cushioning is require for either the top or bottom side of the tray we can provide tray pads.

Grab rails – We offer full width and quarter width grab rails that can be mounted into the surface of the tray.

Arm Rests

REEKS XYZ 060

Arm rests are usually used as a form of arm prompt to help encourage the user to sit upright using their own muscles as opposed to having to use other upper body postural supports, or sometimes as a grab point for getting into the chair. Utilising the same two sizes of mount that the trays do, one can choose from either standard length (normally used on the Teezi and Breezi leg heights) or the long arms (usually used in conjunction with the Max legs).

Transfer Step

Breezi Transfer Step

For some chair setups the child may need a slightly higher point from which to step up into the chair. The transfer step neatly slots in on top of the feet of the chair to provide a higher platform from which to step up into the chair. The transfer step fits the width of the chair, so if you are ordering one separately make sure you match the width correctly.

Stabilising Skis

Breezi Skis

For particularly energetic children a bit of extra stability is often advised or even required to ensure safety. For this we offer our stabilising skis, which simply bolt onto the side of the feet of the chair to extend the footprint of the chair forwards, backwards, and to a lesser degree also out to the side.

Mobility Options

Low Level Mobile Frame

REEKS XYZ 055

This consists of two “out riggers” with casters at either end that mounts onto the side of the chair. The main advantage of this option is that it only lifts the chair by a few millimetres and thereby retains the accessibility for the child and the height relative to other work surfaces. The only downside to bear in mind is that with this very small lift when the chair is pushed over uneven surfaces such as a raise threshold between rooms then the chair can easily “bottom out”. If this is likely to be an issue then you might want to consider the Skis with Caster option instead.

Skis with Castors

Breezi Skis with Castors

These are the same skis used as the stabilising skis with the same casters used on the low level mobile frame. The key difference to the low level mobile frame is that the chair ends up being raised by the height of the caster (ca…cm). This then means that the relation between the seat height and table height will change, but this can be compensated for by moving the plates down two notches.

Mobile Base

REEKS XYZ 069

The mobile base is a strong board on which the Breezi chair is mounted, and has casters mounted to the underside. Like with the skis this raises the chair by the height of the board and casters, but does leave an area from which the child can step up from that is still at the base of the chair (where the floor would otherwise be). This area can also be used to transport other items such as a school bag when the chair is being moved from classroom to classroom.

Millie-Mova

531

Sliding the chair in and out from a table with the child in situ can be difficult and bad for ones back, for this we offer the Millie Mova. The Millie Mova is a neat little invention which attaches between the legs and with the simple action of stepping on a peddle allows the chair to be effortlessly slid in and out from under the table with child still in place. The Millie Mova can only be fitted to either the Breezi or the Max widths (and not the Teezi width).
